It’s been too long since I’ve posted on the blog. Sometimes life and business gets in the way!
Today though I feel compelled to share a story about a recent event in my life. I’ve been a travel agent and business owner now for almost 9 years. During that time, I’ve answered thousands of questions and helped my clients find that perfect vacation for them. It seems on a regular basis though I am asked – why should I use a travel agent when I can book directly with the cruise line (resort, tour company, etc.)?
Here is what I told a recent prospect just the other day:
“There is one main reason why I would choose a travel agent over going directly with a cruise line, resort or tour company (and I worked with one for years before I became a travel planner) – we look out for you the customer not the bottom line. For example, we make sure that you have the best rate and we have rates adjusted even after final payments have been made for you (you would not see a cruise line take the time and do this for you).
My agency is not more expensive to use. We often do get sales that are better than what is advertised as we do such volume with the cruise lines, and we don’t charge a service fee. Also, your travel agent is a direct line for questions instead of calling a 1-800 number for a cruise line and getting a random agent that might not know the right answers and doesn’t know who you are.
If we just look at price though a travel agent offers the same pricing if not better than going direct with the cruise line, resort or tour company. But if you work with a seasoned travel professional, we take the worry out the planning of a trip, answer any questions and make sure that you have that ideal vacation.”
I know I have a passion for what I do and I want my clients to have the best vacation possible. For me it is the customer that comes first and I want them to feel they can ask me questions along the way. We have very little time each year to get away so make the time count.
So don’t be afraid to pick up the phone or send an e-mail to a travel agent. You might be pleasantly surprised at the results!
